Anthony Dozier is an award-winning independent abstract artist. The Neighborhood Superstar award is meant to assist with realizing a creative project (of any discipline) of someone working in the local Wichita community. For over four decades, Anthony has been exploring abstract painting and assemblage techniques.
Anthony’s creative approach reflected on his childhood in the 1960s when he used visual arts as a way of coping with a speech impediment. He says, “As a child, I went silent because I had no voice.” This led to creating things that would convey a message or thought through abstract methods rather than representational drawing. Today, Anthony uses recycled and green materials to explore and experiment.
Anthony Dozier is an alumnus of Upward Bound. He participated from 1971 through 1974. Upward Bound was vital to him because, according to Dozier, “I had a fractured family life.” The program was a place of refuge for him because it provided stability. Anthony graduated from Kansas Newman University with a degree in business administration.
Anthony worked as a coordinator for Aerospace Logistics. Also, his art was on exhibition at WSU from 2014-2016, and he was recognized as New Best Artist in America in 2016.
